Co-CEO Says Netflix ‘Not Growing As Fast As I Want’

Netflix says its growth is falling short of expectations, with co-CEO Ted Sarandos suggesting live programming could play a bigger role in attracting and retaining subscribers.

Netflix recorded growth of 13.4 percent between April and June, its slowest pace in nearly three years, while viewing hours increased by just two percent during the first half of the year.

Sarandos says live programming currently accounts for only a small portion of Netflix’s content spending and viewing, but has proven effective at generating new subscriptions, retaining customers and attracting advertising.

He stressed, however, that professionally produced films and television series will remain the streaming giant’s primary focus.
