Chris Brown has been granted another opportunity to challenge the nearly $13 million awarded to his former housekeeper in a dog attack lawsuit.
A Los Angeles judge ruled that Brown and his company, Black Pyramid LLC, are entitled to a new trial specifically on damages unless Maria Avila agrees to reduce the original $12.9 million award to $9.5 million.
The judge found the jury’s original award excessive, citing insufficient evidence supporting some of the damages claimed for future pain and suffering.
Brown’s other attempts to challenge the verdict were rejected, including arguments concerning evidence presented to the jury.
